FortiGate 400E defends against known exploits, malware and malicious websites using continuous, subscription-based threat intelligence from FortiGuard Labs. It inspects thousands of applications — including cloud services — for deep packet- and application-level visibility, enabling granular policy enforcement. For unknown or targeted attacks, the platform uses dynamic analysis (sandboxing) and automated mitigation to detect, isolate and stop advanced threats before they spread.
Performance
Built around Fortinet’s purpose-built Security Processing Units (SPUs), the 400E delivers ultra-low latency and very high throughput for real-time inspection. SPU acceleration enables industry-leading performance for CPU-intensive tasks such as SSL/TLS inspection, IPS, and VPNs so encrypted traffic is inspected without creating bottlenecks.

The 400E consolidates advanced networking and security capabilities: enterprise routing, switching integration, wireless controller support, and high-performance IPsec VPN to scale remote connectivity. It supports deployment models from next-generation firewall to Secure SD-WAN, enabling intelligent WAN path selection, application steering and resilient multi-path connectivity for consistent user experience.
Management & Visibility
A single-pane-of-glass management model (NOC view) provides 360° situational awareness — topology, device health, traffic and threat events — to quickly identify and remediate issues. FortiGate 400E integrates with Fortinet Security Fabric and Fabric-ready partner products to deliver coordinated, end-to-end protection across the entire attack surface. Fabric automation enables shared threat intelligence, coordinated detection and automated remediation workflows; topology discovery automatically maps devices (including IoT) for comprehensive visibility.
