The Cisco Meraki Virtual MX is a virtual security and SD-WAN appliance designed to simplify site-to-site Auto VPN connectivity for organizations running or migrating IT services to Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs). Deployed on an AWS EC2 instance or Azure VM and managed via the Meraki dashboard, it operates like a VPN concentrator, delivering up to 500 Mbps VPN throughput for critical services such as Active Directory, logging, and file/print hosting.
Virtual MX connections leverage the same SD-WAN features as physical appliances, including Dynamic Path Selection for optimal traffic routing to both datacenter and cloud-hosted resources. It is available through AWS and Azure Marketplaces, requiring a Meraki cloud-management license (1-, 3-, or 5-year terms). Cloud provider VM usage fees apply separately.
