The Virtual MX is a cloud-based instance of a Meraki security and SD-WAN appliance, designed to simplify site-to-site Auto VPN for organizations running or migrating IT services to Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs). Deployed on an AWS EC2 instance or Azure VM, it is configured via the Meraki dashboard like any physical MX, functioning as a VPN concentrator.
Auto VPN connections to a Virtual MX provide a direct, secure link to cloud-hosted infrastructure, supporting up to 500 Mbps of VPN throughput—ideal for critical services like Active Directory, logging, or file and print servers.
Virtual MX supports the same SD-WAN features as physical MX appliances. With Dynamic Path Selection, traffic can take the most efficient route, whether destined for physical datacenter servers or virtual cloud servers.
Licensing Details
- Meraki: Virtual MX is available on the AWS Marketplace and Azure Marketplace. A Meraki cloud-management license is required, offered in 1-, 3-, or 5-year terms.
